The DOE Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program has been using active and passive remote sensors, together with in-situ observations, to characterize the atmospheric state, cloud and aerosol properties, and radiative fluxes over its sites for over 15 years. This presentation will discuss the thermodynamic profiling capability of the ARM program, using examples of recent research projects to illustrate the power of these observational tools.
