Six government agencies funded the National Research Council to conduct a study called "Developing Mesoscale Meteorological Observational Capabilities to Meet Multiple National Needs". The charge to the committee was "to develop an overarching vision for an integrated, flexible adaptive and multi-purpose mesoscale meteorological network, and seek to identify specific steps to help develop a network that meets multiple national needs in a cost-effective manner". This seminar will summarize the major findings and recommendations of the report, which will include an assessment of current observational assets, different observing needs of various economic sectors, current and new observing technologies that could be utilized, a proposed organization to oversee a national network of networks, and an outline of how to achieve this vision.
